Name: John Suyat
Number of Years Running: I have always been a weekend warrior, but only 4 years as a “regular” runner.
What inspired you to start running:
I started triathlon as a turning 40 bucket list item and have been addicted ever since. I would run an occasional 5k here or there but never trained or tracked time and miles until I started triathlon and met up with the team at RNK.
What is your best or worse running memory:
My best memory is completing my first triathlon alongside my two brothers who I also talked into the sport. My wife and son have also since started triathlon as well as several friends. Introducing someone to the sport of triathlon (or running) and seeing them complete their race or meet their goals is so rewarding for me.
What keeps you getting out the door everyday:
My wife and kids. I love it when they run with me and instilling an active lifestyle in young kids is essential to becoming a well-rounded person.
What is your favorite place to run:
I don’t have a favorite trail or route but I do love running with the Saturday morning RNK group run. I have met so many interesting people over the years. The bond you get when someone lifts you out of a funk or they help you get up and over that last hill is special.
What is your favorite product:
A Honey Stinger Waffle when you are hours into a workout and ready to quit can almost bring me to happy tears.
What advice would you give to new runners:
Just start! Don’t let pace, distance or pressure from more experienced runners ruin your run. Make sure you look around on your runs and enjoy nature and the views, otherwise you might as well be on a treadmill.
